Clocking technology can help Birmingham firms with job costing
Birmingham has been the biggest job loser in the recession. The Second City, which is at the centre of much of Britain’s car industry, is taking the brunt of job cuts during the global economic crisis. Employment figures from the Work Foundation say that Birmingham has suffered the biggest rise in the number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance. In 2009 the claimant rate in the city was 7.3 per cent, up from 5.3 per cent at the same time the previous year, with a total of 12,383 people signing on. In the motor industry, as large manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover have cut back, this has resulted in suppliers shedding jobs and cutting back production in turn. The City Council has also announced up to 700 job losses.
